WBYS Ltd. is a family footwear business located in Leicester, with more than twenty employees divided over the office and the warehouse.
The warehouse has more than 76.000 pairs of shoes to distribute around all the EU but UK is the target point.
WBYS works with a lot of different brands and it is the owner of some of them, such as Popps or Mister Carlo.
Before Easter break, I had a personal interview with Arshad Ibrahim, marketing director of the business. That Monday, he explained to me what would be my work during the internship: Design a new collection of Desert boots for winter of 2019 and also with Mister Carlo.
DAY 1 (9/4/2018)
Today, 9-Monday has been my first day of experience working for WBYS.
I felt very comfortable and I am getting very well with all the workers, they are very nice people! Was I like most is the environment, where we work all together in a spacious white room and from my desk I can see everybody working.
In my first day of internship I started drawing desert boots inspired by other brands such as Clarks. However, a person from the industry that is making a brand with WBYS, gave me very important feedback about my work and I will never forget it! He said to me that I have to start studying the brand as we do in University or College, because designers must to know the brand that they are working for (price range; competitors; mood board; customer profile).

DAY 2 (10/4/2018)
On Tuesday I started my day creating the project which will provide me with more details about the brand and therefore I will be able to create a good collection.
I worked independently and at the end of the day I showed my work to the director manager as a presentation. He was very pleased with my work. Also, I watched how the employees made a video for Popps. We had fun all together, they are amazing!
DAY 3 (11/4/2018)
Today is Wednesday and my dead line to complete POPPS’ project. I worked very hard and the manager directors gave me very positive feedback:
- Extraordinary presentation
- Enjoyable
- Interesting ideas of designs for 2019
- They could be able to make ESSENCIAL, my collection name (a word mixing Spanish and English).
New target: Make the same collection, without a counter part as shoe piece for dessert boot.
Overall, today was a great day because all the employees took takeaway and we had lunch all together as a family.
DAY 4 (12/4/2018)
Considering the feedback that the director manager gave me on Wednesday, I started to redesign the Essencial collection (same designs but without counter).
At 12:00pm everything was ready to show the new range collection.
After finishing all my project, I did a presentation to the Director Manager and the boss of the company. They were very happy with my work and they were interested in producing Essential collection for 2018/2019.
At the end of the day, I started making the specification sheet for the factory, because on the 18th they will travel to Zaragoza (Spain) and they wanted to present my idea.

DAY 5 (13/4/2018)
My last day of work experience was amazing!
During the morning, the manager asked me to choose the lining colour and material of my designs to have more information about the pairs.
Before I finished with my internship, I went with the photography team to Lil Still Studios (Leicester) to watch the creativity part of the business: Photo-shoot. In this section I realized how important photographers are to sell the product - their imagination is the key to getting a sale!
We had a lovely time together and I would love to repeat my experience 100%.
My work experience was very short but thankfully I will have a meeting after the end of my course to continue my internship with WBYS.
I would like to say thanks to all my teachers for everything that I have learnt during these two years.
-Without them all of this would have not been possible-
